Solvent Recovery Is Factory Process Data, Not a Pouch Recycling Claim
Ask for the process boundary and measurement period when reviewing solvent recovery at a packaging supplier.
A buyer may see two environmental statements near one flexible-packaging project: what happens in the factory and what happens to a used pouch. They require different evidence. Kaida's company-provided social-responsibility profile describes a solvent-recovery and reuse system introduced for printing and laminating in 2021. The public company overview identifies printing and material operations among the group's activities. The recovery-system description concerns manufacturing operations, not the collection or recycling of a finished package after use.
Define the process boundary
Ask which printing and laminating lines are included in the reported recovery activity. Identify the solvent streams, the point at which material is captured and the point at which recovered material is reused or transferred. A plant-wide statement can mean something different from a result for one line or one month. Procurement should request the boundary before comparing a number with another supplier's claim.
Record the period as well. A rated system capacity, an annual operating total and a result from a short project trial are different measures. They should not be placed in the same column without labels.
Read inputs and outputs together
A useful factory report identifies the amount of solvent entering a process, the amount recovered and how the remainder was handled during the stated period. It also identifies the measurement method and who reviewed the data. If a number is presented as a percentage, ask for the numerator and denominator. This is especially helpful when a brand is preparing its own supplier assessment and needs an auditable source for a statement.
The buyer can also ask how maintenance or operating changes are recorded. A change in capture equipment or line mix may affect comparisons between periods even when the packaging sold to the brand looks identical.
Keep product claims separate
Finished-pack recycling depends on the pouch's complete construction and the route available in a target market. Factory solvent recovery does not establish that result. Put manufacturing data in the supplier-operations file and finished-pack evidence in the packaging-design file. This separation makes both stories clearer and lets a buyer discuss improvements without stretching one kind of evidence into another.
