Salad-Dressing Stand-Up Pouch: Design Around Dispensing and Shelf Use

Map how dressing is filled, opened, dispensed and displayed before finalizing a stand-up pouch.

Kaida Group lists a stand-up pouch for salad dressing. The right project brief begins with the way the dressing moves through the pack. A single-serve sauce used once at lunch asks different things of a pouch than a larger pack opened repeatedly at home.

Specify the dressing and portion

Record the intended fill weight or volume, product consistency, and whether the dressing contains visible pieces. Describe how it is filled and whether any product may reach the sealing area. If the range has several flavors or viscosities, identify the version to use for a first line trial.

Share the intended number of servings. This helps the team discuss pack size, opening and whether reclosure is part of the user experience. If the product will be chilled, transported in a meal kit or stocked at ambient temperature, include that route in the brief.

Walk through dispensing

Ask what the consumer does first: tear a corner, cut an edge, open a fitted closure or pour into another container. Sketch the hand position and the target flow. The opening should suit the intended portion and how neatly the customer needs to dispense it.

For a multi-use pack, describe where it will be stored between uses and how it should be closed. Give the packaging team the actual consumer sequence rather than selecting an opening feature from a catalog image alone.

Check the filled pouch on the shelf

A stand-up pouch should be reviewed when filled. Set a target shelf height and front-facing width, then look at how the bottom footprint supports the intended display. Compare the front panel with the information you must show: product name, flavor, net contents, ingredients and market-specific labeling.

Make a rough artwork map before finalizing the pouch dimensions. Allow for the opening area and any parts of the printed design that fold when the pack is filled.

Bring the line and the shelf together

Send the filling method, product sample, target fill, proposed opening, shelf dimensions and an outline artwork file. Request a filled mock-up and a line trial plan to check filling, closing, display and dispensing with the same design. Share the brief with Kaida Group to start that discussion.
