Printed Lid Rollstock: An Artwork Handoff for Cups and Trays
Before approving printed lid film, align the pack opening, print repeat, registration and equipment specification.
Kaida Group lists printed rollstock for cup and tray lids. When artwork is involved, a film project needs more than a flat design file. The pack opening, web travel, print repeat and sealing equipment all affect where graphics finally land on each lid.
Begin with the container and machine
Provide physical cups or trays, rim drawings and the exact lidding equipment specification. List every container size that will use the film, including any changeover parts. Ask the equipment team for web width, core size, unwind direction, registration system and the area that is cut into each lid.
Mark how the container is oriented when it reaches the sealer. A logo that looks upright on a design sheet can rotate on a filled cup if the machine orientation was not included in the brief.
Build a repeat map before final artwork
Set the number of lids across the web, the repeat length and the position of any registration marks with the packaging and equipment teams. Place the product name, flavor, net contents, date-code area and mandatory market information inside a scaled lid outline. Keep critical text clear of the seal and cut areas.
If the product range has multiple variants, decide which elements stay fixed and which change. A shared grid can reduce confusion during artwork review, while a separate version list helps the line team check the correct roll at changeover.
Review printed, sealed samples
Do not approve the project from a PDF alone. Review a printed sample on the actual filled container, looking at trim, text orientation, seal area and how the consumer first opens it. Run a short line trial using the real container and product to check feeding and register.
Send the container samples, machine film specification, artwork versions and opening goal to Kaida Group. Those inputs create a common reference for design, production and quality approval.
