Pouch Drawings: Define the Measurement before the Dimension

A width on a pouch drawing can refer to a flat bag, a formed base or a filled pack.

Give dimensions a physical meaning

A width on a pouch drawing can refer to a flat bag, a formed base or a filled pack. For a Kaida flat-bottom pouch project, show exactly which state is being measured. A buyer and supplier can both report the same nominal dimension while using different edges, folds or preparation, making a later inspection disagreement difficult to resolve.

Mark the reference points

Add arrows showing the starting and ending points for each critical measurement. Distinguish overall size, usable filling space, seal area and formed footprint. State units once prominently and check them whenever artwork or drawings move between teams. If an old sample supplies the dimensions, identify that sample and record whether it has been opened, stretched or filled.

Agree a practical method

Choose the measurement tool, sample preparation and number of units with the responsible quality teams. Define how a flexible edge is laid out without stretching it. Where the dimension changes with fill, specify the product and filling condition. The method should be repeatable at the supplier and buyer; a precision figure is not useful when the preparation remains ambiguous.

Resolve tolerances explicitly

Identify which dimensions affect machine fit, product capacity or shelf placement. Ask the supplier to review feasible tolerances for those features and document the agreement. Do not copy a tight tolerance from an unrelated format simply because it appeared in an older specification. Check the proposed acceptance method on actual production-like samples before using it for incoming rejection.

Release one dimensioned reference

Send Kaida the drawing, measurement notes and approved sample together. Link all three to a revision code. The next order can then be inspected against a shared definition rather than a tape measure applied differently at each end of the supply chain.
