PCR Packaging Projects: Specify the Material and the Evidence
Define the application, product-contact status, recycled-content method and supporting records before making a PCR claim.
Kaida Group's PCR packaging page describes post-consumer recycled material as an option for suitable applications and calls for review of the material grade, intended use and supporting documentation. A project brief should make those inputs explicit before a recycled-content figure reaches packaging artwork.
Describe the complete application
State the product, package format, destination market and whether the recycled material could contact the product. Include the filling process, storage route and the role of each layer or component in the proposed pack. Outer packaging and a direct-contact food pack present different questions for material selection.
Give the team the current pack, target appearance and any performance checks that must be maintained. A PCR option should be reviewed on the finished pack, including print, seal and handling, rather than on a resin description alone. Note which component would actually contain PCR so artwork and procurement discuss the same scope.
Define what the number means
If the brand wants a recycled-content percentage on the pack, specify whether it refers to the whole package, a particular component or a layer. State the calculation method and the documents the claim owner expects to hold. Ask the material supplier what grade, chain-of-custody records and batch traceability can be provided for the proposed option.
Set the wording of any market claim only after the regulatory and legal teams review the intended use and evidence. Keep the percentage and scope aligned with the actual specification selected for production.
Plan a joint review
Bring operations, quality, procurement and marketing together around one sample and one claim worksheet. List material grade, target content, contact status, tests, available documentation and the approved language. Update that worksheet whenever a component changes.
Share the application and evidence requirements with Kaida Group to discuss material options that can be evaluated against the finished pack.
