Printing Tooling for Repeat Orders: Agree Custody and Revision
A repeat printed-pack order may depend on tooling and production files that are not visible in the artwork PDF.
Identify the production asset
A repeat printed-pack order may depend on tooling and production files that are not visible in the artwork PDF. Before a Kaida print project begins, ask which assets are required for the selected process and how they will be identified. Discuss responsibility for creation, storage, maintenance and replacement alongside the packaging specification so future reorders have a clear starting point.
Separate file ownership from tooling arrangements
Record the approved artwork version and the corresponding plate, cylinder or other applicable asset identifier. Agree who authorizes its manufacture and who may request modifications. Keep commercial terms such as ownership, storage and replacement responsibility in the order agreement. The fact that a buyer supplied a design does not answer every question about the physical production assets used to print it.
Control revisions at the asset level
When text or color separations change, ask which assets are replaced and which remain valid. Update the register rather than relying on a filename ending in final. Have the printer identify the combination used for the next proof. This helps prevent a corrected graphic from being printed with one obsolete element that escaped a general artwork review.
Prepare for a dormant reorder
Before restarting a long-inactive SKU, confirm the current artwork, asset availability and any inspection needed before use. Ask whether a process change affects the old tooling. Give the supplier time to resolve those questions in the order review instead of assuming an old sample guarantees immediate production with the same assets.
Keep a compact asset register
Store the approved reference, artwork code and tooling record together with the reorder brief. Ask Kaida to confirm the selected revision for each new run. The buyer gains a practical way to manage design changes and repeat orders without depending on one person’s memory of the first print job.
