Pack Copy with Numbers: Proof Units, Decimals and Quantities
A small numeric change can alter the meaning of packaging copy even when the design looks unchanged.
Review meaning as well as spelling
A small numeric change can alter the meaning of packaging copy even when the design looks unchanged. Before releasing artwork to Kaida, give quantities, units, dates and numerical tables their own proofing pass. This is especially useful when a range shares a common layout and teams copy text between pack sizes or language versions.
Build a controlled value list
Ask the product owner to supply the approved value, unit and format for every numeric field. Include net quantity, serving information where applicable, instruction amounts and any variable-code placeholders. Identify which team is responsible for the content and which market the copy serves. The printer should receive approved data rather than be asked to infer the intended number from an old image.
Proof at actual size
Compare each artwork field with the value list on a full-size proof. Check decimal separators, unit capitalization, spacing and numbers broken across lines. Review the smallest type on the physical pack and keep it clear of folds or coding zones. Ask a second reviewer to read the value aloud or transcribe it, which can expose errors missed while viewing a familiar design.
Manage range-wide corrections
If one number changes, search the entire artwork set for repeated instances and related units. Verify the corresponding carton and promotional components as well. Issue a change list that states exactly which SKUs are affected. Do not let a global replacement alter a different pack size simply because the same numeral appears elsewhere.
Release an accountable record
Keep the approved value list, artwork revision and content-owner sign-off together. Send Kaida one controlled production file. The next revision can then be checked against a clear content source, making numeric accuracy a repeatable part of proofing rather than a final glance before printing.
