Packaging Lot Genealogy: Connect Pouches, Cartons and Pallets
A packaging lot number is useful when it can be traced from a bundle or roll to the carton and pallet delivered to a filler.
Follow one package upward
A packaging lot number is useful when it can be traced from a bundle or roll to the carton and pallet delivered to a filler. Kaida’s company materials describe packaging production and quality management. Buyers can turn that context into a practical requirement: one selected unit should lead back to its supply lot and forward to the production batches that used it.
Choose identifiers before delivery
Agree which code identifies the material version, conversion lot, shipping carton and pallet. They do not all need to be the same code, but their relationship must be recorded. Show the supplier where the receiver expects to find each label. If a pallet contains more than one lot, make that mixture explicit on the packing list and inventory record.
Handle split and returned stock
When a pallet is split, preserve the carton-to-lot relationship on both resulting units. When a partly used roll or pouch bundle returns from the line, record the remaining quantity and its original identifier. Avoid creating a new internal code that loses the supplier reference. A neat warehouse label is not useful if it severs the route to the manufacturing record.
Try a traceability exercise
Choose one filled-product batch and identify all packaging lots issued to it. Then reverse the exercise: select a packaging lot and find every production batch that consumed it. Record missing links and the time needed to retrieve the evidence. Use a real split delivery or return when possible, because those transactions often reveal gaps hidden by a simple complete-pallet example.
Specify the handoff
Include the label layout and relationship table in the delivery brief sent to Kaida. Ask receiving and production teams to sign off the proposed workflow. The result is a traceable stock movement that supports a focused investigation when a packaging issue arises.
