Mono-PE Film Trials: Keep the Reference Construction Visible

A buyer switching a pouch to a mono-PE direction needs a controlled comparison with the current construction.

A buyer switching a pouch to a mono-PE direction needs a controlled comparison with the current construction. Kaida lists mono-PE packaging and describes PE-based recyclable packaging solutions on its website. The practical question is what the new film changes on the buyer's line and in the filled product, not whether a material label sounds promising.

Define the inputs

Write two versioned specifications: the approved reference and the candidate. Show layer construction as supplied, closure, print and adhesive details, intended product and target market. Rank the goals for the trial, such as machine runnability, package use and a recovery assessment. If several goals compete, the review team needs to know which trade-offs it may consider.

Test the proposed pack

Run the candidate beside the reference under documented filling and sealing conditions. Retain labelled samples from startup and stable running, then inspect filled-pack handling and opening. Record any setting changes needed to reach acceptable production. A candidate that needs a different process is not automatically unsuitable, but the adjustment belongs in the decision record.

Resolve the design question

Ask for evidence on the complete finished pack and local collection route before making a recyclability claim. Film composition alone does not establish how a printed, sealed package with its closure will be managed in every market. Keep the claim review separate from functional tests so the team can see exactly which question each document answers.

Release the decision

Approve or reject the candidate by named product, market and process. Attach the comparison results and sample IDs. This gives purchasing a clean route to order the right version and prevents a material substitution from arriving under the old pouch code.

A trial report should show what stayed constant as clearly as what changed. That lets the next reviewer separate a material result from a machine adjustment.
