Functional Mono-Material Packs: Set Product Tests beside Material Goals

A mono-material-oriented project needs product, line and recovery goals in one test plan.

Kaida Group's functional mono-material packaging page describes a development approach that considers barrier, sealability, durability, print and the intended recycling pathway together. For a buyer, the practical next step is a test plan that holds product needs and material goals on the same page.

Write the product requirements first

Identify what will be packed, how it is filled, the target shelf life and the distribution route. Ask the product and quality teams which outcomes matter most: product condition, seal integrity, line speed, appearance or consumer opening. Include the current pack as a reference if one exists.

Turn each desired outcome into an acceptance check with a named test method or trial condition. A material concept becomes useful only when the team knows how it will judge a filled package. Keep the initial values from the current pack in the project record so later material options can be compared consistently.

Define the material and recovery question

Describe the proposed complete pack, including films, coatings, printing, zipper, spout or labels if present. State the destination markets and the collection or recycling route being considered. Ask what evidence would support the exact claim the brand intends to make in those markets.

Keep the material discussion connected to the product tests. A change made for sorting or processing still has to be reviewed on the filling line and through the customer-use sequence.

Agree on a decision sequence

Start with a prototype, compare it with the current pack on the agreed product tests, run a filling trial, and review the complete pack against the target recovery route. Record any change to the structure or accessories before the next round. This gives marketing, operations and sustainability teams one version of the project.

Send the product sample, current structure, line data, test plan and intended market claim to Kaida Group for a focused material discussion.
