Free-Shape Pouches: Check the Hanging Point under Fill

A shaped pouch can be designed for hanging display, but a hole or tab that looks centered on the flat outline may pull unevenly when the product is inside.

A shaped pouch can be designed for hanging display, but a hole or tab that looks centered on the flat outline may pull unevenly when the product is inside. Kaida lists free-shape pouches as a format. The buyer should test the display point with the intended fill and shelf hardware before approving the final contour.

Define the inputs

Provide the fill weight, product distribution, proposed hole or tab location and the retailer's hook dimensions. Mark all seals and print areas on the drawing. Ask how the pouch will be packed into its outer case so the hanging feature is not bent before display. The brand team should show the intended front view at the actual hanging height.

Test the proposed pack

Make converted, filled samples and hang them for the period and handling sequence chosen by the buyer. Observe tilt, stretching, print distortion and whether the opening remains accessible. Test multiple units, including those taken from different case positions. Keep the sample material and die versions with the results so a successful geometry can be reproduced.

Resolve the design question

If the pack leans or the tab deforms, compare hole position, local shape and case orientation separately. Any cutline change may affect conversion yield or the area available for required text. Recheck the display and the filling-line handling after a revision. A hand-cut art mock-up cannot substitute for a production-like sample.

Release the decision

Approve the hanging point with a filled reference, hardware description and inspection method. That record helps the supplier and retailer agree on what a successful shaped pack looks like after transport and on display.

Confirm the proposed display hardware with the retailer before cutting a production die. A hook diameter is a small input with a large effect on display fit.
