Flat-Bottom Pouches: Sample the Base across a Production Run

Check flat-bottom pouch base shape at several points in the production run and across actual fill weights.

The bottom of a flat-bottom pouch must open into a repeatable shape when filled. Kaida Group lists a flat-bottom pouch among its formats. A buyer can test base consistency across a production run instead of approving one carefully filled display sample.

Define the expected filled shape

Provide the product's target weight and the allowed range around it. Make a drawing or photo of the intended base when the pouch stands on a level surface. Record the footprint and the front panel height at the target fill. Agree whether slight leaning, uneven corners or an opened fold would count as a defect for this product.

Use the actual contents because granular, powdered and irregular products settle differently. If several weights use one pouch, test the lowest and highest expected fills as separate conditions.

Collect samples through the run

Take pouches from start-up, steady running and after a material roll or machine setting change. Let each filled sample settle in the same way before measuring. Compare base width, side depth and how the corners unfold. Photograph them standing side by side on the same surface.

Check the base seals and folds using the quality team's approved method. If a pouch leans, note whether the issue came from the fold geometry, filling distribution or handling. A change to the bag should be tested against the same product and fill condition before drawing a conclusion.

Write a usable acceptance sheet

Store the approved drawing, sample IDs, fill weights, measurements and photos with the batch record. Mark the machine settings and pouch revision associated with each group. The line team can then distinguish a normal range of shapes from a drift that needs investigation.

Send Kaida the product samples, fill range and base measurements. A run-based review makes the flat-bottom feature a measurable production outcome rather than a promise inferred from the empty pouch format.
