Flat-Bottom Bags: Erect and Feed Them on the Filling Line

A flat-bottom bag has to open and present its base consistently before it can be filled.

A flat-bottom bag has to open and present its base consistently before it can be filled. Kaida lists flat-bottom pouches as a format. The buyer should watch the empty bag through magazine loading, pickup, opening and filling. A sample that stands nicely once filled may still be awkward for an automated or partly manual line to erect repeatedly.

Define the inputs

Describe the actual filler, pickup method, bag storage condition and intended filling rate. Give the supplier dimensions for the base and mouth as well as the filled volume. Ask how empty bags arrive stacked or bundled and how operators present them to the machine. A change in surface finish or stiffness can matter at this first handling step.

Test the proposed pack

Run a timed trial with production-like empty bags from more than one bundle position. Record missed pickups, bags that fail to open, base folds and units that sit crooked before filling. Retain the affected samples with their lot and position. Continue through filling and sealing so an early opening issue can be connected to the final package, rather than lost in a simple pass count.

Resolve the design question

If feeding is inconsistent, separate the possible causes: bag stack presentation, machine suction or grip, material behavior, and base geometry. Make one controlled adjustment and repeat the trial. A hand-opened sample cannot prove that a change will run without intervention. Ask the operator which problems are routine setup and which require a construction revision.

Release the decision

Approve the empty-pack presentation and the filled reference together. Document how bags are packed for delivery, any line setup required and a short startup check. This gives purchasing and production a shared specification for the next order and prevents a visually identical bag from arriving in a form the machine handles differently.

Record how many bags were tested before and after each setup change. A single clean cycle is less useful than a repeatable result over the planned run.
