Empty Pouch Inventory: Protect the Approved Pack before Filling

A finished empty pouch can spend time in a warehouse before it reaches a filler.

Start at receiving

A finished empty pouch can spend time in a warehouse before it reaches a filler. That period belongs in the packaging plan. At Kaida, our stand-up pouch range provides a starting point for discussing format; buyers should also agree how delivered empty packs will be identified, stored and issued. A good filled trial offers little help if the line later receives unlabelled bundles from several deliveries.

Keep the supplier instructions with the stock

Request storage and handling instructions for the exact material and construction being ordered. Record the delivery lot, artwork version and receipt date on the inventory entry. Keep the original protective wrapping and labels available for identification. If a bundle must be opened for inspection, define how the remaining units will be protected and how the opening date is recorded. Avoid assigning a universal storage limit to every pouch material.

Manage partly used bundles

Give returned bundles their own remaining-quantity and status record. A line operator should be able to distinguish unused approved stock, a partly used bundle and material awaiting review. Record which production batch received each issue. When old and new artwork coexist, physical separation and distinct item codes help prevent a purchasing description from concealing two different print versions.

Inspect before the next issue

Before loading, check for visible damage, contamination, distortion and lost identification. Hold affected stock for the responsible quality team rather than blending it with a clean delivery. If warehouse conditions have departed from the agreed instructions, provide the supplier with dates, conditions and sample photographs so the team can decide what checks are needed.

Close the inventory loop

Add the empty-pack handling record to the repeat-order brief. Bring Kaida the material version, typical holding period and issue routine when discussing a new pouch. This makes the warehouse a defined part of the packaging route and keeps the approved reference connected to what the filler actually receives.
