## Ask whether timing affected the comparison

If trial material A runs at the beginning of a shift and material B runs after several adjustments, their results may be difficult to compare. For a packaging development discussion with Kaida, include the order of trial runs in the evidence plan. The aim is to understand the material question while preserving a record of changing line conditions.

## Plan comparisons with the trial owner

Ask the responsible technical team whether alternating conditions or repeating an agreed reference would improve the proposed comparison. Identify constraints such as cleaning, product availability and setup changes before choosing the sequence. Do not prescribe a universal randomization pattern: the sequence must be workable and appropriate to the decision. Give each run a unique identifier even when it uses material already tested earlier in the day.

## Record transitions and interruptions

Log the time, material lot, product batch and relevant settings for each run. Mark adjustments, stops and restarts between runs. If the planned order changes, retain both the original plan and the reason for the change. Keep setup output separate from the samples chosen for comparison. This makes it possible to recognize that a later observation followed a machine intervention rather than a simple material substitution.

## Discuss the evidence within its limits

Compare the reference observations alongside the candidate materials and have the technical owner decide whether the evidence answers the question. A repeated reference that behaves differently is a reason to investigate the comparison, not a reason to discard an inconvenient result. Share the run sequence and sample identities with Kaida together with the conclusions. The next trial can then address a defined uncertainty rather than repeating the same confounded order.
